On Wednesday, 8/28/1963, Martin Luther King Jr, standing in front of the Lincoln Memorial, with an estimated crowd of 300,000 people, he delivered his historic “I Have a Dream” speech advocating racial harmony. It looked like this:

In this speech, he stated, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” And measured that character as, “Not where (you) stand in moments of comfort and convenience, but where (you) stand at times of challenge and controversy.”

Today we will honor Martin Luther King, Jr with the “Dream” WOD:

20 min. AMRAP of:

M-muscle ups, 8 reps
L-lunges, 28 reps
K-KB swings, 19 reps
Jr-Jump ropes, 63

Scaling for muscle ups is 8 dips, 8 pull ups, and 8 squats

Post in comments your thoughts on character or other ways you find yourself inspired by Martin Luther King, Jr.

I love the courage, faith, hope, and incredible change Martin Luther King brought to this country. I was only 10 when this event happened and remember watching it on television. I am amazed how far we have come since that day. The United States now has a black President, one of the richest woman in the U.S. is Oprah, and look at all of the fantastic musicians and athletes that have risen to stardom…Wow full circle for us…I love how our content of character can shine in moments of challenge and controversy. This is what life is about. We can embrace the pain and grow. We can avoid the pain and become stagnet. Have you been around a stagnet pond lately…It reeks. I am sure that Arnie would agree with me, the best times for us are after the hard times. We have embraced them without bitterness….Life goes on. Just some thoughts…. KT

"If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward."

I like that Vince and when you young bucks are flyiing on the ropes and I am running over to the pullup bars to get stronger…and you are running while I am rowing only hoping to finish faster that you guys….and you are doing the bear crawls while I am bearly crawling..I will remember that I am moving forward…It is about progress not perfection.. It also helps to have some fun mixed in, doesn"t it?

"Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend. We never get rid of an enemy by getting rid of enmity. By its very nature, hate destroys and tears down; by its very nature, love creates and builds up. Love transforms with redemptive power"
    -Martin Luther King Jr.
